The Purpose of the Women’s Ministry Team
Spiritual Growth
“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:15-16
Fellowship
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another– and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Service
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
Evangelism
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
How is this accomplished?
Leading
The Women’s Ministry Team will be responsible for the coordination, planning and execution of such ministries. This does not necessarily mean that they are responsible to do all the work required to perform these ministries (see equipping).
Directing
The women’s ministry team is responsible for the direction of the ministry. They are to determine the needs of the women in the church body and direct the ministry accordingly. A ministry leader should not seek to meet her own needs but to meet the needs of others, first and foremost. “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4
Equipping
The ministry team’s goal is to involve women from within the church in ministry, giving them the opportunity to use their spiritual gifts. There are no spiritual requirements for these women to serve in the ministry. It is up to the leaders to discern spiritual maturity and the gifts or talents that can be utilized in a specific ministry.
Practices of the Women’s Ministry
Mid-week Bible Studies
The mid-week Bible studies facilitate spiritual growth through the teaching of God’s Word, prayer and fellowship. The teaching emphasis for these studies should therefore include:
- Application of basic biblical truths to all areas of life
- Deepen understanding of God’s mind, His heart and His precepts
- Building relationships
- Prayer
- Serving
Discipleship
Discipleship is the intensely personal activities of two or more persons helping each other experience a growing relationship with God, the goal being to follow Jesus and become more like Him.
Women’s Retreats
Women’s retreats, usually held once a year, are designed to give women a break from the hustle and bustle of normal life and get away for a weekend of teaching, prayer, fellowship and relaxation.
Outreach
These are opportunities to share the love of God by meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the body and the lost. Such ministry may include:
- City Light (women’s shelter)
- Crisis pregnancy centers
- Holiday social gatherings
- Providing meals and services for those in need
